Is there such a thing as a quiet day in Kansai? Ever since the resounding crash of the radio tower above the police station, not really. Often a freed criminal or two is heard hollering around some corner. Maybe it's quiet in the sense that humbler citizens are outright wary of the X-Class Akudama. At the research hospital, at least, there's very little commotion. Do you want to just stay in bed? Were you up all night? Or is it the perfect time to awaken and get some bread?

[ Rideaux shoots a glare at Julius as he passes by him (for no real reason except Fuck Julius In General, and also he's mad about what's happening to his shoes in here right now), but... he's here, and he's determined to get that damn hashtag trending again this week.

So — can we get some more explanation about how the body is positioned exactly, because I am having trouble wrapping my head around that part of the initial discovery comment! ]

[As you walk into the restaurant from the original entrance on the east side, you see Kimimaro immediately. His back is covered in bone spikes, and is almost precariously balanced on the counter. His tail, also covered in bone spikes on the dorsal side, dangles down into the space behind the counter. His arms dangle down in the space in front of the counter. A shrimp is curled around his wrist.

He has been through a great deal but first things first, medically medical medic, what happened to his chest. It is just devastated, blood everywhere, so let's find out what particular organs were damaged.]

[ Yikes. So he's like, on his back and sort of propped up by spikes here? Also how fucking big is this bracelet shrimp...

Yes, let's look at the chest wound! What does the wound itself look like (made by a weapon, claws, etc.) and what's damaged inside? Presumably the lungs, at least, going by the app. ]

[It is a thin flat shrimp that was probably part of a nigiri.

That's right! Underneath the layer of soot and burns that covers the entire front of his body, he was mcstabbed in the lung! There are multiple slash wounds undoubtedly from a bladed weapon that is, at the absolute least, larger than the "awl" which massacred the robot Gai's examining. One vertical slash has decimated the lung. Another horizontal slash has crushed an upper pair of ribs. There are more but it starts to get rougher and run together, unsure whether there was a diagonal sweep or multiple slashes.

You also smell burnt human flesh. (Don't lie, you recognize it.) One of the slash wounds is in this relatively small area of burnt skin and ribs.]

[ Does that mean that it looks like the burning accompanied that slash, like if the blade was heated or something, or just like one of the slashes that happens to be on a spot that was burned?

If it's the latter, does the burn look more from getting blasted with a fireball (thankfully Fireball is a Tales arte so he probably knows exactly what that looks like!), from less intentional contact with flames, or, again, from something like a heated object coming into contact with the skin?

Is there any notable damage to any specific organs besides the lungs? ]

[ All right, let's get cracking. Julius'll take part of what's left of the shop and see what's up. ]

["What's left of the shop" is precisely what you end up in, on the north side of the shop that has dried out by now and is far away from any fire damage at the dishwasher or the hole in the wall. Somewhere between all the overturned chairs and shattered sushi dishes, what you see are bones. There's a wild variety, so shall we examine them systematically?]

[ So just to make sure, this part of the shop doesn't have any fire damage, right?

He sort of grimaces at what clearly are bones, but he'll look through them, seeing what the differences are, what would be considered intact or not, y'know. Usual stuff. ]

[Hard to call any part of the shop not fire damaged when there's soot in the air. Just being inside is still uncomfortable.

Some of these are not actually normal human bones. Most of them are some nice big legs, arms, and ribs, but there are a few that instead are flat like shells. Put together, they would fit over the upper back. Among all of these, there is a mix between cindery dark gray and a more eerie porcelain white.]

Any indication of damage on the bones outside of the burning? Do the flat bones look like they'd be part of Kimimaro's back bone stuff?

He'll look over what else needs to be seen in the vicinity before moving on from the bones. ]

[A long piece of unagi falls down from the lamp towards his head.

The bones actually are eerily intact and solid despite being burnt. They are probably pertinent to a certain Kimimaro technique. Not the "spine whip" one though.

But the general debris is being taken in by Diluc. You just got the bones out of it and are free.]

[Okay, so there was pretty clearly a fire in here, which is interesting given that this is a sushi place and likely doesn't have much in the way of, you know, stoves or other fire-creating things that could spark something like that.

He's going to start looking around for the source of this fire.]

[That's right! How on Earth did so much of this fish get burnt? The fire was very apparently all over the place. But Gai will be drawn towards the south wall of the building. Behind this is a daunting, intractable replicator. Perhaps the conveyor belt went in and out of this unseen compartment.

What's more interesting is the dishwashing setup in the section of the wall demarcated by the band, manned by a robot that has been stabbed............... so many times. It'll take a closer look part by part to piece together what happened here, but this is definitely a lead on a source of an electrical fire.]

[Hmmm... can he see anything inside of that compartment if he uses the flashlight app on his phone? And I'm going to assume that the wall means he can't actually get to the replicator itself, right? Is there anything else he'd be able to notice about it from where he is?

He'll take a look at the dishwashing setup in a moment once he's finished checking this out.]

[What you realize from looking through the gap with the flashlight is that the conveyor belt elsewhere in the restaurant must be the entire thing, not just a large chunk of it, because there is nothing remaining inside. The small accessible amount inside of the replicator's compartment is otherwise disconcertingly metallic and vague.]

[He's definitely going to go get a better look at that conveyor belt after this. But first, a test: what happens if he picks up, say, a dish and uses a pair of chopsticks to carefully shove it into that replicator?

That done, he'll be snapping some photos of the replicator and its positioning and setup before turning his attention to the dishwashing area! So... which part of it seems to be more burned/charred than the rest?]

[The dish just sits there. The robot is in no condition to receive your seal or voice recognition, so nothing will be replicated. Like most conveyor belts, the motors are on the side, so being on top of the platform without a belt, goods stay still.

The dishwasher itself is a sink full of water containing a rack, on top of a compartment that can be opened but is flush closed at the moment. Inside the compartment are more racks. They would be moved to cycle somehow, but everything shorted out like crazy.

And then there's a robot behind this dishwasher. An ex-robot depending who you ask.]

[Slightly late arriving, but here sure is Diluc, answering the text message summons for once!!

He’s going to just… loiter and examine the area near the front door. This smell isn’t great in here at all.]

[No, it's not! Might as well stay back by the door where the water came from. At least there the pieces of raw fish are essentially soggy instead of burnt. Some of the grains of vinegared rice have come loose and are floating around in between the blood that is also gradually flowing outside. Huh. Interesting. Just watch out for the glass. And the sake cup shards. ...lot of different smells to experience today. Well, don't worry so much about the glass of the automatic doors. That fell to the outside.]

[Many smell indeed. Sake is one he can easily recognize.

Anything important or out of place by his loitering spot, beyond the rivulets of blood and the blown out glass?]

[The loitering spot is a good place to look at the rest of the restaurant. To your left is the appliance disaster Gai is examining. To your right is the hole in the wall from the alleyway. To the left and right on the walls and counter and chairs, there are stabs and gouges, deep ones.

Is that every direction to look that comes to mind?]

If the building is well enough to not collapse, how about he takes a couple steps in closer to look at the gauges. He’s seen Kimimaro do some damage during the raid, and even more swords in his time, so maybe he can get some information there. A prayer to Barbados he doesn’t step in too much sushi.]
